Cheers to polypropylene chairs

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - You see them everywhere: polypropylene (PP) stacking chairs. They are made by an injection molding process using polypropylene, a lightweight thermoplastic with a high-impact resistance invented by an Italian scientist Giulio Natta in 1954.

The PP chair was designed by Robin Day in 1963 for S. Hille & Co.  The original purpose of this chair was intended for low cost mass-produced stacking chair, affordable by all and to meet practically every seating requirement.

Through the years, PP chairs became available in a wide variety of colors and designs.  The amazing qualities of polypropylene construction mean long-lasting use in a variety of commercial settings.

This is one of the very few chairs which, after over 40 years, are still in production, and has been made in 40 countries around the world for hotels, restaurants, coffee shops, schools, airports, hospitals, arenas, as well as homes.

In fact, polypropylene chairs are the best-selling chairs in the world.

Play & Display offers a very wide selection of stackable chairs made of polypropylene.  PP chairs’ important characteristics are bacteria-resistance, easy to keep clean, ergonomic designs, economical and visually appealing.

The collection has various shapes of frames and color options to suit any budget.  They are offered at 50 percent off at Play & Display.

Eve chair is a classic model with its “tree branches” look on sturdy chrome legs, and comes in red and white.  It is now priced at P1,600 each, from its original price of P3,200

Felicity chair is very chic with its “figure of eight” pattern all over the body.  Color options are orange and white, and priced at only P995, from its initial tag of P1,990.

Amie chair is Italian-inspired due to its irregular holes on its body, supported by durable legs.  It comes in unique hues of pastel pink, sunny orange, and marine blue.  Price is at 50 percent off, too, at net P1,600.

Europa is the ever popular design with its European cut of curved details on the body, standing on chrome legs.  Also at 50% off, it is down to P1,500, from P3,000.  Versatile colors are red, black, green and white.
