It's in the genes

OH YES, IT'S JOHNNY! - Johnny Litton -

The debate on whether artistic ability is inherited or can be acquired was put to rest  at least, for the time being  during the Pamana art exhibit held recently at Altro Mondo-Arte Contemporanea in Greenbelt 5 Makati. On display were the works of the late Filipino cartoonist and painter Salvador Cabrera, Sr. side-by-side with those of his son, creative director and sculptor Jojo Ayllon Cabrera. Clearly, the passion, skill and mastery of the human anatomy were passed on from father to son as manifested in Jojo’s sculptures particularly his “Art Junk” which used mixed media and post-consumer materials like plastics, metal and wood. Seen enjoying the exhibit and the camaraderie were artists of note, among them National Artist BenCab (a younger brother of the late Salvador Sr.), Juvenal Sanso, Betsy Westendorp, Gines Serran-Pagan and Marivic Rufino. Part of the proceeds went to the service projects of the Rotary Club of Makati Urdaneta.
