A chair for mom

MANILA, Philippines - Studio 10.10 artist, sculptor and furniture designer Niccolo Jose is familiar with the difficulties of working with various types of Philippine wood because of their irregular grain patterns. Creating this “Fan Chair” exemplifies the challenge of shaping all the grains together into one beautiful, artistic and functional piece of furniture. The artist lovingly produced the prototype for his mother, Geng. The Fan Chair is a conscious blending of several Asian designs. The compressed splats and generous proportions are designed to accommodate a person’s body and reveal a modern touch. The artist considers his love of wood and his appreciation of incorporating different types of grains into one studio piece, his most successful attribute as a furniture designer. The “Fan Chair” by Niccolo Jose is made of Big Leaf Mahogany, Tamarind, Kamagong, Dungon, Ipil, Narra, Yakal, Molave, Apitong, Luaun and Avocado.

Studio 10.10 is located at second floor. LRI Design Plaza, 210 Nicanor Garcia St., Bel Air, Makati City.
