MANILA, Philippines - In coping with the worldwide climate change, the Philippine Horticultural Society Inc. with the cooperation of the Quezon City government will be sponsoring a flower and garden show on Jan. 27 to Feb. 6 at the elevated garden of Quezon Memorial Circle, QC. Exhibits will be formally opened on Jan. 26 at 3 p.m. by-invitation-only with guests of honor QC Mayor Herbert Bautista, Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, former Vice President Noli de Castro, Rep. Cynthia Villar and and avid plant collector Butch Campos to formally cut the garland.
Overall show chair Dr. Romeo Gutierrez and co-chair Dorie S. Bernabe jointly announced that the exhibits will focus on gardening for a healthy living with the theme “New Trends and Creative Techniques in Gardening.” Apart from the landscaping display of new and old varieties of various ornamentals, both tropical and temperate, also to be featured will be creative mobile plant arts such as tray-landscapes (dishgardens), topiaries, wall/hanging gardens, terrariums, bonsai, underwater landscapes, pocket gardens, water gardens and mini waterfalls among others.
Recommended for the indoors of apartments, townhouses, condominiums, hotels, restaurants, offices, hospitals, airports, bus terminals and train stations and other establishments are mobile plant arts, which can be easily transferred.
For avid plant lovers there will be a commercial section where they can buy collector’s items, new domestic and imported plants and new hybrids. As usual, there will be daily educational lecture-demonstrations on various aspects of gardening not only for their aesthetic value but also for food, health and beauty aids. One can also learn ideas on earning a living on the aspects of ornamental industry.
