Engineer Jose A. Sy of Sy^2 + Associates Structural Engineers, the structural designer of existing and future tallest buildings in the Philippines, designed the bearing wall system for The Linear. As the design’s name implies, it will be the reinforced concrete walls that will bear the weight of the towers.
“Instead of columns and beams, you start putting in all your bearing wall, which are actually the partition wall that will carry the rest of the towers,” explains Sy who built towers beyond 32 stories leading to the construction boom in the ’80s and the pioneer of the first full-blown top-down construction method in the country.
Sy said the benefit of the bearing wall system is a cleaner interior space and very optimized useable area that can improve the layout of a room. “In terms of flexibility of your furniture arrangement, you can move them around without getting obstruction coming from the beams or from the columns,” he says.
Other benefits are luxurious headroom clearance and crack-free walls.
Sy says modern construction methods contribute to speedier construction of buildings. Based on industry standard now, a typical one floor can be completed in less than one week, he says.
