Haribon holds MulTREEply event today
MANILA, Philippines - Haribon Foundation will hold “MulTREEply” — a treeplanting event today, Oct. 15 at Nuvali, Santa Rosa, Laguna. This supports the foundation’s campaign “Road to 2020” which aims to restore one million hectares of rainforests with native trees by the year 2020. This campaign is supported by WQAP/Aquabest, Globe Telecom, Fernbelly Products, Pan Pacific Manila, ISport Life (FILA), Papersavers and Partners, and Hanna Supetran. There will be 6,000 seedlings that will be planted. Volunteers are invited to participate.
Haribon Foundation, the country’s foremost environmental organization, hosted a birdwatching activity last Oct. 1 at the Mt. Palay-Palay, in Ternate, Cavite. The activity gave participants a unique feeling of being a part of nature and encouraged them to be advocates in conserving and protecting the environment.
“The Philippines is home to more than 600 bird species. About 30 percent of these are unique to the country, making the Philippines a haven for birdwatchers,” said Anabelle E. Plantilla, chief operating officer of Haribon Foundation. “It is also along the East Asian Flyway, the route that migratory birds take during the winter months of October to April.”
The activity aimed to increase people’s awareness and promote the protection and preservation of the Mt. Palay-Palay National Park and our forests. It also served as an avenue for providing the general public with data and information on the richness of our forests and the protection of species and habitat.
This activity is complemented with a birdwatching app “PH Birds 1.” This app boasts a number of native Philippine birds, with photos and detailed descriptions of each. This handy reference may be downloaded at the iTunes store for $1.99.
Haribon Foundation and DENR also jointly participated in a coastal clean-up activity last Oct. 8, at the Las Piñas-Parañaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area (also known as Freedom Island).
