MANILA, Philippines - Today, Oct. 8, winemakers and winery representatives gather in one venue to pour their wines, chat with guests and also conduct workshops and exclusive tastings. The event at the Venice Piazza Grande, McKinley Hill starts at 3 p.m.
“A Taste of the Old World” with Joel Payne is set at 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Payne will talk about the difference between the Old World and New World as well as his passion for wines. Payne was named Germany’s best sommelier thrice. He is best known for his German Wine Guide. He is a founding member of the Grand Jury European and was president of the international circle of wine writers from 2007 to 2010.
“Wine 101” with wine maker Nick James Martin is at 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. James, who is from Australia, will acquaint visitors with the basic grape varieties as well as present the importance of wine appreciation. He is the wine presenter on Sumptuous TV, a food and wine show on Channel 9 in Adelaide Australia.
The last event for the day is “Tales from the Hunter Valley with Jock Tulloch” at 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tulloch is the great grandson of the founder of Tulloch Wines, and the only son of Jay and Julia Tulloch. He is now the export manager of Tulloch Wines and is based in Bangkok, Thailand.
