Instituto Cervantes joins 5th Manila International Silent Film Festival

MANILA, Philippines - With the growing success of the International Silent Film Festival since 2007, organizers will once again treat film and music enthusiasts to various silent films from different countries scored with live performances by local musicians. Film and music have always been the most popular art forms in the Philippines; hence the attraction of the public for watching international silent films, as the festival brings together the old and the new, the foreign and the local.

Instituto Cervantes will once again join in the fifth edition of the Manila International Silent Film Festival on Aug. 26 to 28 with a showing of the film Pilar Guerra (1926) by José Buchs, with a live musical score by local band HDC Trio.

The film will be screened on Aug. 28, 5 p.m. at the Shangri-La Plaza Cineplex. Admission is free.

Pila Guerra is a love story of the teacher in the town of Araceli, Pilar Guerra, and her romantic relations with Luciano, the son of the mayor, who does not approve of this young love. In hopes of separating them, he sends Luciano on a trip and Pilar to a different destination.
