AHA World Class Master Chef Series presents chef Michael Ty
MANILA, Philippines - The American Hospitality Academy (AHA) Philippines, the first and only international culinary school in the country, brings chef Michael Ty, the first Filipino-American president of the American Culinary Federation, as guest master chef for this year’s AHA World Class Master Chef Series. This program brings in master chefs from all over the world to train the academy’s students and instructors.
Last year, AHA brought in from New York Toba Garrett, one of the world’s foremost artists and educators in the field of cake decorating. This year, they continue to set the bar high as they bring chef Ty, who is the current president of the prestigious American Culinary Federation, also known as “The Authority on Cooking in America.”
The American Culinary Federation provides accredited educational programs, certifications, competitions and networking designed to achieve its mission to enhance professional growth for all current and future chefs and pastry chefs.
Born to Chinese parents in Manila, chef Ty spent his childhood in the Philippines before immigrating to the US. Michael received his Associate of Science degree in culinary arts from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Cobleskill and continued his education with coursework at the University of Nevada Las Vegas in Harrah Hotel College’s Hotel Management and Food and Beverage Management departments. He is a certified executive chef and a member of the American Academy of Chefs (AAC).
During chef Ty’s stay in the Philippines, a series of activities will be held in the academy to help students develop their skills and competencies in the field of culinary arts. An in-house contest titled “Be Like Mike Contest,” patterned after the Be Like Mike Contest organized by the American Culinary Federation, will also be held. Interested students may submit an essay describing why they aspire to be a culinary leader and how shadowing American Culinary Federation national president Michael Ty will help them reach their goal.
Chef Ty will hold classes and cooking demonstrations during his stay for the Academy’s students assisted by the current winner of the Be Like Mike Contest, Trisha Le Blanc, an Ivy-Tech Community College student from Indianapolis. Chef Michael Ty will also be the commencement speaker for the graduates of batch 2011.
