From Chiang Mai to Manila
MANILA, Philippines - The Dheva Spa and Wellness Center at the award-winning Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi, Chiang Mai, has been lauded for its holistic wellness programs and soothing Thai massage treatments. The good news for spa enthusiasts is that part of the renowned Dheva Spa experience will be brought to Mandarin Oriental, Manila during the latter’s Thai Festival sponsored by the Thai International Airways, the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi, Chiang Mai.
From May 31 to June 7, Trin Paleeriam, the Dheva Spa’s holistic health specialist, will be at The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Manila to perform the indigenous lanna massage and the traditional Thai massage. The tok sen, or lanna massage, is an example of a treatment unique to Chiang Mai’s palatial spa. Once popular in North Thailand, this stimulating massage technique is rarely practiced today. Tok Sen involves a light gavel made of tamarind wood which is used to tap rhythmically along the muscles. This even, repetitive tapping motion promotes a hypnotic effect on the mind, thus easing muscle tension and promoting relaxation. This is followed by a deeply relaxing herbal oil massage, using specially prepared warm compresses called luk prakhob.
The traditional Thai Massage is a treatment that dates back 2,500 years. Nuad phan boran, as it is known in Thailand, is performed wearing loose Thai-style clothing, and is conducted on a futon. Gentle rocking motions, rhythmic acupressure and assisted stretching both relaxes and energizes stressed-out bodies. The lanna massage will be available at P3,888+ and lasts for 90 minutes. The traditional Thai massage is priced at P2,400+ for a 50-minute treatment and P3,688+ for a 90-minute treatment. Guests who book an appointment with Trin get a complimentary P500 spa voucher for use on their next visit.
