East meets West at DC launch

MANILA, Philippines - Marking a superb ingenious fusion of East and West, the world’s preeminent maker of skate shoes and footwear, DC, has brought another craze to echo the urban taste of young skaters.

Collaborating for the first time with the Singaporean design group RoyalFam and its designer and sneaker customizer Mark Ong, the DC Spring 2010 Collaboration boasts a lineup of artistically created products ranging from shoes to apparel and hats.

Also known as SBTG, Mark Ong is well-known in the art of sneaker art and design. He started as a hobby painter mastering his craft in his parents’ kitchen and eventually gave birth to Sabotage Sneakers in 2003. With skateboarding as one of his major inspirations, his creative passion depicts his love for various influences. After almost a decade of unique artistry, his inventive genius was recognized by industry giants.   A vision as vivid as his has captivated the likes of James Lavelle, Mike Shinoda, and Joe Hahn from Linkin Park, Q-Tip and recently, Kobe Bryant of the LA Lakers. 

Now, bringing his creations and influence to the Philippines, last March 10 at The Manor, Eastwood Libis, DC officially launched its collective creations, which are now available at DC Ayala Cebu, DC Eastwood, DC TriNoma, and Bratpack Greenbelt 5.

In conjunction with the event, DC hosted a Deckart Design Competition where the 20 finalists from over 500 contenders competed. Over P130,000 worth of gift certificates and P 30,000 cash were given away to deserving winners. Bagging the first prize is the diverse street art idea of Kristoffer Lloyd Valera, followed by the Madonna and Child of Edu Perreras; third was the gnarly work of Crist Espiritu; fourth was the soft and subtle conception of Vicente Bea and lastly, the punk and rebel idea of Ronante Maratas.

Adding up to the evening’s excitement was Bad Boy Ben, which was followed by a live performance by Southern California host Renee Renee.
