MANILA, Philippines - Since 2004, the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence (MADE) National Competition has been recognizing the best and most promising interior designers. This year, Federal Land is again collaborating with the Metrobank Foundation to honor the creativity and innovation of young and talented Filipino interior designers.
The competition is open to all PRC registered interior designers 25 to 45 years old (25 as of May 25, 2010 and 45 as of Sept. 17, 2010 with updated PRC license).
With this year’s theme, “Eco and Elegant Interior Design towards a Sustainable Future,” contestants are expected to create a design suited for a young couple residing in a condominium. The scenario: weekend entertaining is normal for this well-traveled couple, using their living-dining area for socializing activities. In addition, all entries must subscribe to the five Rs of design — Restore, Respect, Reduce, Reuse and Recover.
The finalists will be given the chance to execute their designs at the PhilAXA Building penthouse, Sen. Gil Puyat Ave., Makati City. They will be tasked to create a conceptual design based on the given design problem.
Submissions will be screened based on the following criteria:
Design solution — Design originality, logic, concept, space planning, suitability to the eco-design challenge;
Eco-design content — Creative choice, practical, and viable integration of sustainable materials with the elements of design to actual project execution; and
Presentation — All drawing requirements, clarity of design and details, overall impact.
The winning interior designer will receive a cash prize of P200,000 and a trophy. A special prize winner will also be chosen and will receive P150,000 and a trophy. Participants will also earn points for their Continuing Professional Education (CPE) and additional points will be given to the winners.
