Powerade powers up duathletes in Manila
MANILA, Philippines - Powerade, the sports drink that optimally hydrates and energizes sportsmen, and the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP), staged the culminating leg of the Powerade Philippine Duathlon Open 2009 last Dec. 13. Over 200 racers from Metro Manila and Luzon gathered as early as 4 a.m. at the Quirino Grandstand, making this event the biggest duathlon race ever in the Philippines.
The race boasted a standard Olympic distance, comprised of a 10k run, 40k cycling leg, and finished off with a 5k run. Prior to this final leg for 2009, three other shorter races (7k, 31k bike and 4k run) were held at Macapagal Avenue on the SM Mall of Asia grounds in March, June and September of last year.
It was Neil Catiil who brought home the overall men’s championship, clocking in at 1:53:30, and Mirasol Abad was declared overall women’s champion with a time of 2:27:39. The top three finishers from each age category were also given medals and cash prizes.
Powerade Sports Drink has sodium for better nutrient absorption, potassium for normal water-electrolyte balance and chlorine, which helps maintain the body’s pH level.
Celebrity sports and fitness enthusiasts were also there, such as dance diva Regine Tolentino, UAAP swimming champion and actor Enchong Dee, Blue Eagle point guard Jai Reyes, singer Jay-R, and model/actor Jon Avila.
Through all the pursuits to achieve athletic passions, fun, action and triumphs that happened during Powerade Philippine Duathlon Open 2009, Powerade has been a proud partner to many both in providing the optimal hydration their bodies need and moreover in fueling their spirits to be the best they can possibly be. Indeed, Powerade stands true to its belief that sports is what you make it.
