MANILA, Philippines - Who is the celebrity chef known as the Irish Cooking Queen who also has her own line for Tipperary Crystal?

She was born on March 21, 1972 in Dublin, Ireland. Encouraged by her family, she attended the Ballymaloe Cookery School at 18, and after graduation worked at the Ballymaloe House Hotel to test recipes and then teach them in school.

In September 2004, RTE broadcast her first series, Favourite Food, which was later accompanied by a book of the same name. This was followed by two other TV series and books, Favourite Food for Friends and Favourite Food at Home.

She moved effortlessly to the top with Food for Living, a book and 13-part BBC prime time series. What distinguishes her from so many chefs is the way she appreciates that food must be integrated into our lives rather than just being fuel or a way of showing off our culinary skills.

As she points out, food can be restorative, nurturing, and emotionally fulfilling, even apart from its tastiness. As she reminds us, the ritual of eating may be formalized or spontaneous, and the appreciation of the way in which we can approach food in different ways is very much at the heart of food for living.

Her style of cooking is practical — simple but delicious food.  Her influences are both regional and global. BBC describes her as an Irish Cooking Queen and Good Food magazine believes that she has put Irish cooking on the map in recent years.

Her charming manner and effortless style make her a delight to watch. She is a frequent guest on BBC’s Saturday Kitchen, and is one of the presenters in the Good Food Channel Market Kitchen Show.  In 2008, she started her own series called Bake!

Apart from her four books, she has a column in The Sunday Tribune magazine in Ireland, and contributed to BBC’s Good Food magazine and AWT At Home magazine. More recently, she appeared in The New York Times as the special guest of the Irish Tourist Board.

She also has her own home collection for Tipperary Crystal consisting of fine porcelain and bone china, etched glass stemware, dinner and tea sets, linen, enamel products, oak range chopping boards, and fragranced candles.

The collection is both functional and fun, reflecting her own love of everyday living. “The concepts emanate firstly from practicalities that I look for in the kitchen,” she explains.  “Only then do you begin to perfect the design and look of the product.”
