Electrolux calls on design students to join Design Lab 2009

MANILA, Philippines – In tandem with global Design Lab 2009 competition aptly themed “Designs for the Next 90 Years,” Electrolux Philippines will dovetail the international contest by having a local competition so when students register and send their entries to www.electrolux.com/designlab they are also encouraged to send a copy of their design to Electrolux Philippines at jarmine.borja@electrolux.com.

For the local contest Electrolux will be offering great prizes and special awards, such as P50,000 worth of appliances for the most innovative design ideas. Furthermore, professors from the school of industrial engineering, fine arts, and industrial design are encouraged to convince their students to join as Electrolux will also be giving away P50,000 worth of appliances to the advisor who is able to encourage the most number of contest participants among his/her students.

Deadline for submission of entries for the local competition is on May 31. Local entries will be judged by the same international jury who will be presiding over the Electrolux 2009 Design Lab global competition.

This year, Electrolux Design Lab 2009 invites undergraduate and graduate industrial design students from around the Philippines to create home appliances that will shape how people prepare and store food, wash clothes, and do dishes over the next nine decades.  The design ideas should address key consumer insights such as being adaptive to time and space, provide learning and allow for individualization. The finals will be held in London on Sept. 24.

Winners will receive 5,000 euro and a six-month paid internship at one of the Electrolux global design centers, first prize; 3,000 euro, second prize; and 2,000 euro, third prize.
