'Musical Kaleidoscope' at Salcedo Park
Barangay Bel-Air in Makati, in cooperation with the Salcedo Community, launches its Arts Month with “Musical Kaleidoscope” on Jan. 31, at the Jaime Velasquez Park, popularly known as Salcedo Park, in Makati City.
The concert will feature classical, Broadway and jazz music, as well as well-loved Filipino compositions to be performed by some of the country’s best-known classical artists led by pianist-lecturer Prof. J. Greg Zuniega, and soprano Camille Lopez-Molina.
A class valedictorian at the Philippine High School for the Arts (PHSA), Zuniega continued his musical studies at the University of the Philippines, then at the Moscow State University, before earning his undergraduate and graduate degrees at the Royal College of Music in London where he was given the Tagore Gold Medal for excellence.
The Manila String Ensemble will play classical and popular numbers. Composed of violinists Ma. Rosario Esmilla and Alfred Sanchez, viola player Chito Dumlao, flutist Enrique Barcelo and violoncellist Joseph Rodriguez, the ensemble will perform their rendition of Angel Peña’s Iyo Kailan Pa Man, and the Beatles’ Eleanor Rigby.
The featured soloists — soprano Camille Lopez-Molina, Pablo Molina, soprano Anne Gelli Dimapilis, and tenor Carlo Angelo Falcis — will perform Hebariera, from the opera Carmen, a duet from Miss Saigon, and Ryan Cayabayab’s Tuwing Umuulan.
Enrique Barcelo, principal flutist of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO), will perform Claude Bolling’s Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano Trio, while bass player Rommel Cruz and percussionist Edgar Embradura, together with Zuniega, will complete the Jazz Trio.
