Antiques are more than the sum of their parts. Aside from the enduring materials and masterful craftsmanship, they boast the veneer of history and the indelible marks accumulated through time.
In this age of mass production, antiques remind us of the elegance of time past, an era where attention to detail was lavished in crafting a piece of furniture.
That’s why it takes a keen knowledge of history, meticulous eye, and sensitive heart to spot a genuine antique.
For over a decade now, Old Asia has been bringing to the Philippines a treasure trove of antique, original, and exquisite pieces from all over the Orient. As it marks its 17 anniversary with the theme “Bringing Elegance to Antiques,” Old Asia remains true to its commitment of creating evocative living spaces for its discriminating clientele.
Established by couple Toto and Pachot Mapa with the help of their daughter-in-law Monette, Old Asia began when Pachot started bringing interesting pieces from Bangkok (where Toto was based) and displaying them in her residence. Piqued by her selections, her friends inquired where she got the pieces and asked whether they can purchase them from her. Quick to see a business opportunity, Pachot opened her first shop at SM Megamall, and soon after in Glorietta.
Now located at Shangri-La Plaza and at Power Plant Mall, Old Asia continues to cater to clients who know the value of antiques. Its core circle of loyal clients has grown with the years.
“Now even their children are buying from us,” says Monette. “Our clients are not just customers. They have become family friends.”
