There are many pressing concerns in the world today that have not been spotlighted by the media. As the financial crisis makes the headlines, other important issues have been made ignorant to the public. I am addressing the issues of the lives of real heroes like Superman and the X-Men and the threats both cosmic and personal that they currently face. The masses’ conception of their true chronicles has been marred by their reel selves. Thus, as a public duty, I have done extensive reading and research on what are factual updates surrounding our favorite caped crusaders. I hope the valuable knowledge you has receive today makes you the geeko supremo when you watch the next film franchise installment of Batman or Spider-man.
* Please note today’s news maybe changed by mind wipes, visits to alternate realities, twin siblings, pacts with the devil, and the occasional time alterations.
Final Invasion
For both DC and Marvel, the Earth is currently under the siege of alien invaders. Marvel’s megaevent Secret Invasion has shapeshifting Skrulls posing as some of our favorite superheroes and even presidents like our Gloria Arroyo and taking over the world undetected since 2004. They were even responsible for the strange behavior of some characters and past events. Currently, the miniseries is one comic away from completion and has Iron Man and the Avengers in their final battle against these goblin-like aliens. Notable characters revealed as imposters are Elektra, Spiderwoman, Antman, Invisible Woman and even the butler of the Avengers, Jarvis.
On the other hand, DC didn’t lose out in some global thrashing either. Their miniseries Final Crisis, described as “The Day Evil Won,” has the evil god of Apokolips Darkseid and his minions conquering the Earth through their Anti Life Equation. The diabolical formula acts as a virus and has infected and mutated most of the superheroes on Earth including Wonder Woman and Green Arrow. Like Secret Invasion, the villains plot their attack silently by inhabiting the bodies of characters in the DC universe, including an alpha green lantern named Kraken. The series is halfway done and expect some alternate world problems to ensue as this event is the end of the multi-universe Crisis trilogy. Aside from Darkseid’s reign, the original Flash Barry Allen has been resurrected from the death after dying in the first part of the Crisis trilogy, Crisis of Infinite Earth.
The effects of these events look more like an exciting storyline as they involve the Earth and our superheroes reeling from its global destruction.
Mutations
The mutant population has been going up and down like a genetic accordion the past few years. Four years ago, the X-Men opened its doors as a campus and brought in a large cast of characters. Two years later, the reality altering mutant Scarlet Witch said “No more mutants!” and most mutants were depowered and left the freak population at 198. After that major upheaval, a mega mutant baby was unpredictably born and had both heroes and villains scrambling after it. The baby was soon given away to time-traveling mutant Cable to take care of. Now, the X-Men have moved to Marin Headland San Francisco and we were welcomed by its mayor and people for their alternatively living ways.
The most evolved character among the X-Men is Scott Summers a.k.a Cyclops. He is now involved with blonde telepath White Queen Emma Frost after his wife Jean Grey died in the hands of Magneto years ago. Also, he kicked out Professor X out of the mansion and as headmaster because of revelations that his mentor was keeping secrets from the team. This involved finding out that their Danger Room is a living alien computer bent on killing them and that his brother was almost killed in a mission year ago.
Cyclops will soon be the focus of the next x-event as Jean Grey’s clone Madelyne Pryor is previewed to be back and raise some hell.
