“Dreaming in print” is the mantra that has guided, guides, and will guide Supreme throughout our existence. And, we have really nice dreams — we dream in color, we see what’s at the cusp of coolness. Our dreams are stocked with the supremacy of what’s ahead.
These days, we’ve been Nostradamus — thanks, in part, to the party plague — but also because it is that time of the year us hardline journalists look into the future for betting tips.
Yes, we’ve seen what next year looks like. It is harder, better, faster, stronger. We know the Supremos that will rule it. New blood courses through the old RP’s veins — the future’s so hot, we’re hard. For… life.
We’re calling it! Here are the chosen eight who will take us to higher ground in 2008. Join us on the ride — and on the rise. Skyrocket, Supreme!
Will Devaughn and Jon Avila
The fashion scene’s loss is showbiz’s gain. These two heartthrobs set Kuya’s house on fire so much that we feel Kuya might’ve shifted his preference. After they get released from the big yellow house (like, after they spend their third Christmas in ABS-CBN’s captivity), they are sure to be barraged by offers — both decent and indecent. We’ll definitely see more of them next year as leading men of the boob tube and, hopefully, the big screen.
Sanya Smith
The name alone causes ripples — Sanya Smith. Say it right, as loud and clear as she does on MYX. She is Joey Mead meets Pepe Smith Sarah Meier — what a deadly combination (and a scene we’d like to see). Sanya started her career as a radio jock, bagging the Magic 89.9 DJ hunt. She then went on to another hunt, and has assumed the title of MYX’s resident music maven. The Supreme seer in us says that in the very near future: VJ = Sanya Smith. Sanya Smith = VJ.
Divine Lee
Going beyond her party IT girl status, hard-working real estate heiress Divine Lee is on our Supreme radar for doing mankind good under the radar. Sans publicity and fanfare, she reaches out to the less fortunate in ways you can only imagine while developing property for our countrymen here and abroad. Mega magazine seems to agree, and put her on their “Women to Watch” cover for 2008. What’s in store for the divine Divine? A hotel empire, new businesses, a clothing line, and maybe her own reality show?
Jayson Fernandez
It’s Jayson with a Y. He’s the new kid of Lizza with a Z. A double Z. We’re talking about Rivermaya. There hasn’t been a band that has soared as high as the big R, and with the guidance of the big double Z, they've carried on after their vocalist Rico Blanco left this year. Jayson is the product of the band’s public search for a new frontman. He bested 500 dudes and landed the job of a lifetime. When Supreme asked Lizza to tell us about him, she said, “It shows on his face how much he enjoys singing and being with Rivermaya. And he’s 18 — half the age of Rico and Bamboo!” she laughs.
Mia Ayesa
The runway’s new muse oozes with an androgynous appeal and an electricity that can give hard-ons to even the gayest fashion watchers. Industry pillars are one in their praise for this new pouter. Her career turning-point was when she became the show-opener for the Inno Sotto show, making all heads turn to ask the other head next to them: “Who is she?” (in a good way). New blood never tasted this sweet.
Niccolo Cosme
He’s shot everyone. And everyone loves to be shot by him. There’s something cosmic about Cosme. He adds new meaning to the word “gloss.” He takes it to a whole new level. Just last week, he produced a headshot clinic where industry folks got their heads shot by this shutterbug on the rise. His Supreme portfolio includes shooting a range of subjects from high-profile peeps to obscure things (ie. Nardong Tae). And he does so with signature wit and humor. We’re placing our bets on our favorite Supreme photographer.
Gaby De La Merced
The mere fact that even Big Brother himself bent his own rules to get Gaby back into his house makes her the rule-breaker. And being a rule-breaker in the industry of show makes Gaby a shepherd in a field of sheep. Her rawness spells fresh. She’s sexy without trying to be. She’s won hearts just like she’s won tourneys. The same blaze she gave racing we hope she will use on TV to inspire other young, passionate people who want to live it up.
Marian Rivera and Rhian Ramos
Unintentionally putting them in one spot together is unfair. Both deserve their solo slot for the years to come, but since we like the number eight we’ve crammed them into one Supreme space — just like we did with Will and Jon. No ratings fight here. Marian gripped Pinoy viewers with her version of Marimar. GMA bigwigs know this. GMA bigwigs will give her more projects. There’s a new angel on the clouds of the GMA Network.
From angels, we go to mermaids. The grapevine says Rhian Ramos will play mythical mermaid Dyesebel. If she succeeds in the ratings swim race, Neptune will be in her favor. The tides say that this girl can cause a tidal wave.
