Girls... ... gone wild!

- Tim Yap -

It all went by so fast. It is 16 days to go before the New Year 2008. I used to make countdowns to Christmas, but I simply lost count with all the whirlwind bazaars, parties and launches that come with the season.

Each night is a happening night. Each night is a hop from one company party to the next new destination store to the new DJ station. Each night, the hunt goes on. Why are people on the prowl? Is it desperation to meet “the one?” Or is it desperation for “the one” to meat? Or mate.

Human instinct dictates that everyone is desperate for something. People desperately pretend, others desperately seek. Others are just…desperate. Okay that last line was plagiarized. Because I am desperate for words — for Desperadas, which opens on Jan. 1, 2008.

Aside from capturing and satirizing people’s desperations, this movie not-so-desperately brings together four of glitzbiz’s top draws. There’s simply no marquee that can fit Ruffa Gutierrez, Iza Calzado, Marian Rivera and Rufa Mae Quinto altogether — but this movie has. And it even goes beyond that.

This is the 00’s version of the 80’s classic Working Girls. Or a Pinoy version of Desperate Housewives. But I didn’t need to tell you that. It’s no secret. But having Pinoy versions is very much part of Pinoy pop culture. Look at Darna. Lastikman. Gagamboy. Marimar. And in the end, the result will be originals themselves — or at least, Cinema One Originals.

I haven’t seen the movie, but I’ve hung out with the cast. One night I put my prowl on pause mode and shot this exclusive Supreme spread which spoofs the catfights that were associated with the film that took a year before Mother Lily and daughter Roselle found its rightful cast. The above-mentioned stars are all at the top of their games — queens in their own right. Iza Calzado is shooting one movie after another, and we dare say, on the brink of international queendom. Marian Rivera is at the top of the ratings game, and is the reigning queen of primetime soap. Rufa Mae Quinto is the queen of sexy comedy. And Ruffa Gutierrez is at the second peak in her life.

Ruffa is the queen of, um — she’s the queen, girrrl.

As you can see on this Supreme spread, these girls ARE wild. They’re wildly bold, wildly energetic, wildly passionate. And their careers are wildfires.

So we MUST desperately watch this film.

Marian Rivera

I am desperate for: sleep!

My supreme goal is: to entertain people around me.

Ten years from now: I hope to be the best actress that I can be.

When I’m desperate, I look like: I don’t know! Haha!

My Christmas wish is: a vacation for my family.

In the movie, I play: Courtney, the most KSP (kulang sa pansin) of them all.

I think Rufa Mae is: hilarious.

I think Ruffa G is: beautiful.

I think Iza is: a great actress.

I aspire to be: appreciated with what I do and make people happy with my craft.

Rufa Mae Quinto

I am desperate for: nothing! Haha.

Ten years from now: I hope to have a loving family of my own.

The thing that makes me happy is: making people around me laugh and entertained. I really love doing that.

When I’m desperate, I look: sexy.

My Christmas wish is: to get more projects, to produce more movies, and for Desperadas to hit the box office.

In the movie, I play: Patricia the sexologist.

I think Marian is: very pretty.

I think Ruffa G is: funny, smart and gorgoeus.

I think Iza is: talented and beautiful

As a woman,of the world, I look up to: Goldie Hawn. A very talented actress and even if she’s already old, she still looks hot.

I aspire to be: a good mother and wife for my soon-to-be family, to have my own production company, to be richer and, hopefully… not be desperate anymore!

Iza Calzado

I am desperate for: your love, hahaha! :)

My supreme goal is: to be Iza Supreme :)

Ten years from now: it will be 2017, hehe! Seriously, 10 years from now, I pray that I’ll be doing things greater than my mind can conceive.

When I’m desperate, I look like: a fool!!!

My Christmas wish is: to have my own place soon. I’m still searching.

In the movie, I play: Stephanie, a demure and conservative lawyer.

I think Marian is: pretty and confident.

I think Rufa Mae is: very funny and sssseeeeeeeexxxxyyyyyy!!!

I think Ruffa G is: smart and fabulous, and funny too!

As a woman of the world, I look up to: Oprah for the way she has turned her adversities into sources of inspiration and for running a successful business empire and for being philanthropic.

I aspire to be: the best I can be.

Ruffa Gutierrez

I am desperate for: not the arms of a man, but the arms of my two loving daughters.

When I’m desperate, I look like: a monster! Haha!

My Christmas wish is: for our movie Desperadas to be a box office hit.

In the movie, I play: Isabella, the fashionista single-mother.

I think Marian is: misunderstood. She’s actually a very nice and shy little girl.

I think Rufa Mae is: Ruffa Mae has paid her dues in the industry. Before, she was just an extra in my movie Ang Pinkamagandang Hayop sa Balat ng Lupa. The only time I saw her back then when she was crying under the kalabaw. But now, she’s my co-star. I’m so proud of her. She’s very smart and definitely a money-maker!

I think Iza is: a very talented and charming woman.

The last time I cried was: a few weeks ago. Yilmaz sent me a letter about how our relationship started and ended. It was very detailed, and the part that made me really cry was when he quoted the dying scene of the king from the movie 300. The king said, “My wife, my queen, my love.”

As a woman, of the world, I look up to: Princess Diana is so 10 years ago. For me, I look up to Oprah and Angelina Jolie. I love Angelina Jolie because even if she has so many hangups and intrigues in her life before, that didn’t stop her for being a good mother to her kids and especially doing charitable works all over the world.

I aspire to be: the best mother that I can be for my two daughters.
