Its pets day out at Eastwood City
August 5, 2006 | 12:00am
Pet lovers, get ready for a fun-filled weekend. The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) has christened this weekend, today and tomorrow, "Pets Galore!" Theres going to be a bazaar and a hodgepodge of activities for animal-lovers at Eastwood City. All proceeds of the events will go to a good cause PAWS Animal Rehabilitation Center.
There are two-pet filled and fun-filled events scheduled, one for cats and the other for small dogs. Get a chance to do something fun with your dogs and cats, and do it for a worthy cause.
"Whiskers, Purrs and Tails" is scheduled today, Aug. 5, 12 noon at the Eastwood Cinema lobby. It is a movie-themed cat show in which native, mixed-breed and purebred cats can join. Cat guardians get to decorate the cages provided at Eastwood Cinema Lobby and transform them into scenes from favorite movies like Superman, Harry Potter and Garfield. Cats will be shown at the Eastwood Cinema Lobby starting 2 p.m. There will be public voting from 3 to 6 p.m. and awarding is at 6.30 p.m. There is a registration fee of P200.
Tomorrow, Aug. 6, will be the "The Great Dog Dash." This is a fun race for small dogs that are not taller than 15 inches (from paw to top of head). The race will be held at the Eastwood Central Plaza.
"We actually got the idea from the Doxie Dash a fun race for Dachshunds launched by an animal shelter in Florida, also for the purpose of raising funds for their animal shelter," says Alma Peralta, a PAWS director. "But while we retained the basic principles of the race like allowing the guardians to coax their doggies with toys and treats at the finish line, PAWS took it to a whole new level by creating a miniature racetrack for them. The Florida Doxie Dash doesnt have that racetrack."
The height requirement, Alma explains, is mainly to ensure the safety of all participants and to keep it a purely fun race.
Registration for the race is at 3 p.m. The race starts at 4 p.m. Registration is P200.
"Pets Galore" is sponsored by The Philippine STAR Petlife, Globe Broadband, Pedigree, Whiskas and Cesars. Special thanks to Frontline and Eastwood City.
