Wine connoisseur receives French award
February 8, 2003 | 12:00am
I was truly delighted to have been among the lucky invitees of the granting of a coveted award to Alexander Lichaytoo, president of classical French wine purveyor Bacchus International, Inc., from the French Ministry of Agriculture. The Ordre du Merite Agricole is given to deserving individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of French agricultural products.
The award was given for the first time in the Philippines, during a celebration held at the posh residence of French Ambassador Renee Veyret. The recognition lauds Lichaytoo "for his work in the development of French wine and food products in the Philippines."
Way to go, Alex! Only the best from the Lichaytoos and Bacchus!
Ever since its foundation in 1853, the annual New York Debutante Cotillion and Christmas Ball had the first ever Asian and a Filipina at that gracing the prestigious event held at the ultra-luxurious Waldorf Astoria in New York.
Lovely and graceful Gaia de Asis Benitez, daughter of Philippine Womens Universitys Dr. Jose Conrado Benitez and stunning wife Joanne de Asis, was presented to the New York societys elite in a dreamy white Pitoy Moreno gown with intricate lace and beadwork.
The simple and sophisticated debutante, who was sponsored by Sam Lefrak, was joined by her parents, grandfather Augusto de Asis, sister Janna and the De Asis clan. The event was not just a high-brow celebration, it also served as an important fundraising event for the NYU Downtown Hospital which served the less fortunate members of its multi-cultural community.
We are truly proud of sweet and adorable Gaia for being part of the tradition participated in by notable names such as the Rockefellers, the Astors, the Vanderbilts, and the late Jacqueline Bouvier. Even former New York Mayor Rudy Guilliani and Ambassador John Negroponte were so proud of this charming Filipina lass who was undoubtedly the prettiest young thing at the prestigious ball.
Congratulations, Gaia!
