Japanese lifestyle brand Muji opens the doors of its seventh store at Ayala Center Cebu. Located at the 2nd level of the mall’s new expansion wing, Muji’s functional design philosophy adds to the cosmopolitan shopping experience from Ayala Center Cebu. Shoppers are in for a variety of options from over 40 international and local brands to bring 'Flair Beyond Compare' - the best, unparalleled retail and dining experience in Cebu.

Muji Cebu’s 417-square meter floor area is the home to over 30,000 units of functional, eco-friendly items from various different product categories. A complete selection of lifestyle products from furniture, housekeeping, kitchen and dining utensils, storage, health and beauty, travel, men’s and ladies’ garments, stationery and food items are made available to Cebu residents and visitors from Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, Davao and other nearby provinces. The opening of Muji Cebu sets its sight on the growing number of retail customers in the Visayas region, which is a mixed bag of residents, tourists, foreign exchange students and professionals from the corporate, diplomatic and industrial sectors.

Functional Minimalist

Muji designs and offers functional items from streamlined production processes. Its philosophy of functional minimalism eliminates the unnecessary product features to focus on providing practical use and premium quality. Muji also prioritizes conscious efforts to protect the environment by reducing waste and by constant initiatives to recycle materials.

Muji’s Product Development Projects in Kyrgyzstan, Kenya and Cambodia

In November 2013, Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd., the owner and developer of Japanese retail lifestyle brand, Muji, received the Inclusive Business Leader Award at the Inclusive Business Leaders Forum 2013. The forum was organized by International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group.

IFC recognized Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd. as an Inclusive Business Company, defined as a profitable organization that provides solutions to the social challenges of developing nations. Inclusive business companies use their value chain to provide income opportunities to those at the base of the pyramid (BOP). They are evaluated by IFC based on their business model, development results, social, environmental and financial sustainability.

The Inclusive Business Leaders Forum invites inclusive business leaders around the world to recognize the importance of initiative integrating producers from developing countries into global value chains as a catalyst for economic growth.

As part of its manufacturing business, Muji develops products in Krygyzstan, Kenya and Cambodia. In June 2013, its product development project was recognized for the first time as an Asian retail business in the Business Call to Action (BCtA) at the United National Development Programme (UNDP).  The said project received similarly high recognition at the Inclusive Business Leaders Forum 2013.

The annual BCtA event was held in New York, September 2013. This year, Muji became an event panelist to introduce the company’s initiatives and engage in discussions to promote inclusive businesses. Muji aims to contribute to regions by providing livelihood and supporting their partners’ local businesses through their main business of manufacturing.
