Davao City hosts Cine Europa for the second time

It is Davao City's turn to host Cine Europa for the second time with the support and collaboration of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP). Cine Europa's Sweet Sixteen toured Manila,  Baguio City, Cebu, Iloilo and  Cagayan de Oro.

Spain's ‘Frozen Silence’ will be screened at Palm Gil St. in Davao City on  Oct. 15, 2013 at the FDCP's Cinematheque.

Action-filled "Frozen Silence" tells of the investigation of soldier Arturo Andrade into the death of another Spanish soldier whose body emerged on the frozen surface of a lake. Whether the soldier's death was related to masonry or whether he was a pro-Soviet agent would be tackled in the story directed by Gerardo Herrero II.

Consul Francisco Lon of the Consulate of Spain will open the film festival together with FDCP officials led by Wilma  Isleta and Felisa Marquez of the Museo Dabawenyo.

Film enthusiasts from Davao City will enjoy 21 films starting with the special screening of "Frozen Silence"  until 20 October.  Aside from Spanish films, moviegoing public from Cagayan De Oro will be able to  see 20 other European films from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary , Italy, the Netherlands,  Norway, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Filipinos continue to enjoy  Cine Europa film festival which is the European Union's lasting gift to the Philippines during the latter's centennial celebration that is why admission to all the Cine Europa screenings remain to be free.

Now on its 16th year, As Cine Europa  is reaching more Filipinos than ever before with screenings right across the country. With its expansion from three to six cities last year, attendance has increased by a quarter from 29,000 in 2011 to 36,500 in 2012.

With numerous award winning European movies including romantic musicals, wartime movies, historical dramas, family comedies and even world class documentaries, there really is something for everyone at Cine Europa 16.

 The film festival opened at the Shangri-La Plaza in Manila and moved to Baguio, Iloilo, Cebu and Cagayan de Oro. Cine Europa will then move on to Cinematheque Davao City from Oct. 15-20.

Cine Europa 16 is organised by the European Union Cultural Group in Manila which gathers together the Embassies and Cultural Institutes of the European Union (Representations in Manila including the Embassies of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Spain, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, the Delegation of the European Union to the Philippines and the European cultural institutes (Alliance Française, British Council, Goethe-Institut, Philippine-Italian Association, and Instituto Cervantes de Manila,. the Film Development Council of the Philippines, the Independent Film Cooperative, the Shangri-La Plaza Mall (Manila), Arts Council of Cebu and Liceo de Cagayan de Oro (Mindanao).
