JC De Vera: ‘Being fit is more important than having a model’s body’
JC De Vera has always led an active lifestyle. He has always been athletic and inclined towards sports and fitness ever since he was in school. As an actor, he continued working out to maintain his ripped physique.
Now, JC takes on a new, exciting role — as a new father. His family has given him a new reason to stay fit. More than just aesthetics, he is focused on improving his energy and endurance to play with his little daughter Lana Athena.
He will also soon be launching his own fitness vlog where he will share his passion and knowledge on fitness. In particular, he hopes to encourage everyone that they can have a good physique even if they are parents already.
“This is the new dad bod,” he jokes.
We caught up with JC to talk about his new insights on fitness.
The Philippine Star: How do you stay in shape?
JC De Vera: I do a lot of things at the gym. I mix everything up. From lifting weights, doing circuit training, boxing, playing basketball, running, tabata workouts and more. I have to be fit for my family. I want to have that energy and endurance when it comes to them. Playing with them, doing household chores, cooking for them and carrying my baby is no joke. Being fit is more important now than having a model‘s body.
Do you follow any special diet?
No, I just maintain a balanced diet. I eat red rice, lots of vegetables, a handful of meat, fruits and oatmeal.
What do you do for rest and recovery?
I make sure that I have eight hours of sleep every day. If time permits, I schedule a massage. I also drink BCAA supplements and other vitamins to help my body recover faster.
When most celebrities do travel vlogs, why are you focusing on exercise and workouts?
It’s my lifestyle. I love working out. Most of the time when I’m out of the country, I work out for breakfast. I really enjoy it. It keeps me happy and sane.
What do you want to achieve with this project?
I’d like to share knowledge to my viewers about what workout fits them. A lot of times people get scared of trying other workouts at the gym. Sometimes they’re confused about what to do. So I want them to have a fitness goal and I want them to achieve it. I want them to get motivated by watching.
Where do you wish to take your passion for fitness?
If time permits, I would study further and I wish to have a certification so I can legally teach.
We heard that you are even considering further studies and certification in fitness. May we know why?
I like teaching people how to exercise. It’s just my passion. I understand how it works kulang nalang yung formality. It’s my dream to become and to be called a coach one day.
What is your current fitness goal?
To maintain my body fat percentage at 10 percent and to bring back my six- pack abs. I want to show people that they can still have a nice body even if they are parents already. This is the new dadbod.
What is your favorite part of your physique and what part of your body do you think needs improvement?
My favorite part of my body is my shoulders. My legs need improvement especially when it comes to endurance training.
What’s the best fitness advice you can give to motivate people to get fit?
When you are stubborn to workout, that’s the time you drag yourself to exercise. Because from there, you will build discipline. Be patient with your body. There will be no results in one week.
