MANILA, Philippines — A parent’s breastfeeding journey is unique and beautiful, but not always easy.

Understanding the multiple demands placed on modern parents, Philips AVENT is committed to developing a range of solutions to support the baby’s feeding process, helping parents to feel confident that they are doing the best for their baby, whatever their feeding decision is.

During Breastfeeding Awareness Week, Philips AVENT seeks to raise awareness of the importance of breastfeeding and creating environments that are comfortable for a nursing mother.

This means providing support for breastfeeding moms—in public, at home, at work or out-and-about, along with guidance and specifically designed products that will make their journey more comfortable.

This year, the brand wants to celebrate breastfeeding, but also underline the invaluable importance of the supporting network surrounding the mother and baby, especially during the first life-changing months after birth.

Importance of partner participation

The health benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and baby are widely acknowledged, but while global breastfeeding initiation rates at birth remain high at around 60% to 95%, these are gradually declining over time. This results in lower breastfeeding rates at 6 months of age.[1]

Providing ongoing support for breastfeeding mothers is key, especially as these same women become increasingly time strained, with many having to juggle childcare and careers. It is during this time that partners need to play a more active role in the breastfeeding process and fortunately, many say they would like the opportunity to do so but need guidance on how.

Friends, family members, and healthcare professionals can all play a part, and getting a partner involved in the breastfeeding process is proven to have a wealth of benefits.

Importantly, studies show that women who receive support from a partner are more likely to initiate and continue breastfeeding for longer, while involvement in the feeding process also encourages infant bonding.[2]

#ComfortableAnywhere

Philips AVENT recently called upon moms and their support networks to participate in a social media campaign promoting the welfare of infants through breastfeeding and the importance of nurturing environments for nursing mothers in public spaces.

“Breastfeeding creates an intimate relationship between moms and their child emotionally and nutritionally. We value the importance of creating a bond, not only with your child but also with your family through breastfeeding. At Philips AVENT, we want to celebrate National Breastfeeding Month by highlighting the people who matter on this journey – you and your family,” said Maite Uy, business development manager of Philips Personal Health.

“Being a leader in the childcare category in the Philippines, Philips AVENT’s collaboration with these moms is so beautiful. Seeing them step up for such a great cause and partner with us to promote the need for more spaces where moms feel comfortable to breastfeed is so empowering. We all want to enable Filipinas to breastfeed more confidently and comfortably,” she added.

The brand continues to co-create solutions and share their expertise with the wider healthcare and parenting community, helping to successfully educate and inform parents about breastfeeding.

By helping parents to embrace every challenge with confidence, it hopes to encourage breastfeeding for longer.
