MANILA, Philippines — Celebrity doctor Vicki Belo thinks she might have inspired TV host Korina Sanchez to take the giant leap toward becoming a mom even at 60 years old.
In an interview with Philstar.com during her recent launch of Belo Thermage FLX, Dr. Vicki said she and Korina have been discussing Korina’s motherhood for a long time.
“Korina kasi wanted to have a baby very badly, but was very afraid,” Belo disclosed.
“She’s not ever had anything but career woman. So when I did it, we had a lot of talks. I’m sure it’s been there at the back of her mind way before I even wanted to do it. But she’s just so afraid.”
To convince the news anchor to conquer her fears, Belo told her: “No, Korina, it’s a wonderful experience!”
She explained how happy she is with Scarlet: “Scarlet is so masaya, there’s been so much laughter in the house. (She) has made me want to look younger and take better care of myself.”
Becoming a mom again, even in her 60s, has made Belo wanting to look younger longer, which is why Korina was also motivated to look younger at her age since she tried the celebrity doctor’s Thermage service.
“(I’ve been) physically and emotionally working out so I can bloom, I can carry her (Scarlet). So it just keeps you really young. It’s your choice. Don’t worry about the downside because the upside is so much bigger,” Belo recalled telling Korina.
Belo said she was just surprised when one day, Korina told her she has done it and now has Pepe and Pilar, her twins with politician Mar Roxas.
“It took her a while and then just one day she said, ‘I did it!’” Belo narrated.
“I think she’s having the time of her life. She’s really enjoying, because Korina’s been working since she was 18. Because Korina takes care of her family, so loving daughter to her parents. She loves taking care of people, so now, it’s about taking care of her twins.”
Belo revealed that she is the one who gave Korina the lead to where she could have an in-vitro fertilization through which she had the twins.
“In fact, same doctor kami,” Dr. Vicki bared, “I told her where to go because I told her this doctor is very successful. Because there’s nothing more heartbreaking than doing something like this and mabigo ka, ‘di ba?”
Since having the twins, Korina has not asked for a parenting advice from Belo.
“I think this generation, they read so much, so even Hayden, every day, he’s been reading and he’s really a (hands-on) parent. In my generation, I was only 22 when I got pregnant with Quark. Now, when I look back, parang ang bata ko naman, grabe! Parang dati, we’re not really reading so much. Ngayon, I’m learning a lot more.” — Video by Erwin Cagadas Jr.
