Banana flower, a great staple for weight loss
You may find it surprising, but the humble banana flower, banana heart or banana blossom has loads of health benefits. Dubbed a super food, regular intake can protect the body from various infections due to its ethanol extracts.
For minerals vital to bodily functions, banana flower is abundant in phosphorus, calcium, potassium, copper, magnesium, and iron. It has estrak methanol, which has powerful antioxidant properties. It is also loaded with vitamins A, C, and E, as well as protein, dietary fiber, and fat.
A hundred grams of banana flowers make up approximately 40 calories with less than five grams of protein and carbohydrates. Since it is high in dietary fiber, eating banana blossom keeps you full for longer periods, making it perfect for weight-loss diet plans or a great staple for weight management. You can add it to your soup or salad.
And take double note: Since it is loaded with antioxidants, it can help prevent premature aging. That’s another reason for women to load up on this wonder flower.
The banana flower is a blessing to women: It treats excessive bleeding, keeps the uterus healthy, prevents constipation during pregnancy and improves lactation.
It is a traditional home remedy for excessive bleeding in women since it helps increase progesterone in the body. Banana flower can help if you suffer from pcos (polycystic ovary syndrome) and in fact keeps the uterus in peak health.
Banana stem is high in fiber and helps in the healthy digestion and absorption of food.
Banana flowers also contain magnesium, which is a natural anti-depressant that helps reduce mood swings and depression.
Several studies and animal tests in the last decade focused on the banana flower to determine its effect on diabetes. A peer-reviewed study published in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture showed that banana flowers promoted glucose uptake which in turn reduced blood sugar levels. The authors credited this to phenolic acids and other bioactives present in this flower.
A similar test carried out on diabetic rats showed that rats that were fed banana flower as part of their daily diet fared much better than the rats in the control group that did not receive the banana flower. Banana flower has anti-diabetic properties and including it in a diabetic’s diet would also reduce other diabetes symptoms such as polyuria, hyperglycemia, and body weight fluctuations.
