Jeron Teng & Jeanine Tsoi: Finding love on the basketball court
It seems it was just yesterday when the mighty Green Archers, led by its team captain Jeron Teng, won the UAAP Season 79 senior basketball championship. The King Archer won his second Finals MVP and his second UAAP title after averaging 19 points on 52-percent shooting, along with 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists. That December 7, Jeron played extremely well with 60-percent shooting from the field for a total of 28 points, the highest score on that final game.
Jeron was very happy to cap his decorated UAAP career with a championship. That remained his burning desire, a fitting farewell to his beloved De La Salle University team. As in every game, the Teng family was present to support him and celebrate with him, including his girlfriend Jeanine Tsoi.
Right after the final game, Teng rushed to the Patron section of the Araneta Coliseum not only to hug and kiss his mother Susan but also his girlfriend Jeanine. She wore a Jeron Teng jersey over a white shirt and was as jubilant as Jeron. “I am so happy for him. The championship was his focus the whole season. I am so proud of him,” she was quoted in interviews after the game.
Jeanine, a Professional Models Association of the Philippines (PMAP) model, is no stranger to the UAAP. She was the courtside reporter for DLSU for two seasons. A self-proclaimed UAAP fan even when she was a kid, basketball has always been her favorite sport to watch.
Covering the Archers meant dropping by the Enrique Ramon Sports Complex often to watch the practices, eavesdrop on the team huddles, and bond with the whole team. She had to write her own reports and deliver them confidently game after game, win or lose. Jeanine, who shifted from Advertising to Civil Engineering at DLSU, also plays the piano, sketches, bakes, cooks, and paints quite well!
Many say they are really compatible, they even share the initials JT. We spot them frequently together in the gym, and on dates, of course. We asked them seven questions, which they gamely answered.
THE PHILIPPINE STAR: Did fitness or sports play a role in making your paths meet?
JERON TENG: Yup! Jeanine was our courtside reporter for two years.
Do you share the same level of commitment to a fit and active lifestyle?
JERON: I am very dedicated to my sport. I always make sure I’m in my best shape so I can play well.
JEANINE TSOI: Having an athlete boyfriend somewhat motivates me to bring my body to the gym and not be a lazy couch potato, ha ha!
Do you play sports or exercise together? How often?
JEANINE & JERON: We go to the gym together as often as we can. And we’re so happy that there is a branch on Taft because it’s convenient.
What are your meals like on dates?
JEANINE: We never really hold back on what we want to eat. We both love food!
JERON: We eat a lot, but we make sure we exercise more so we stay fit.
Do you cook for each other? If yes, what?
JEANINE: Yup! I cook his favorite dishes for him when I have the time.
JERON: And sometimes we bake cookies together.
How do you help each other manage stress and weight?
JEANINE: When we get overwhelmed with the load of things we have to do, we both make a checklist and take things one at a time.
JERON: We relax by watching a movie, eat good food, and get a massage.
How are you spending Valentine’s Day?
JERON: I have plans, but she doesn’t know it yet.
