Dance your way to fitness

Dancing king: William Flores promises “a lot of Latin music and much happiness” when he performs on Feb. 4 at the Soleus Running Dance Fest at SM By The Bay.

Dance is slowly moving into the mainstream when it comes to fitness and trying to lead an active and healthy lifestyle!

More and more disciplines are being introduced to the public and they just can’t quite seem to get enough of ’em.
This thirst for more has helped guys like William Flores thrive.

Flores has been an international Zumba fitness instructor for four years now, and his legend continues to grow all over the world.

He has been into ballet, modern dance, jazz, salsa, cumbia, folk dance, merengue, and hip hop and has travelled all over the US, Mexico, Dubai, Singapore, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, and Ireland, and now the Philippines.

He is slated to perform on Feb. 4 at the Soleus Running Dance Fest at SM By The Bay at 6:30 a.m. He will also have a masterclass on Feb. 3 at the Events Place, Shaw 500 Zentrum, Shaw Blvd., Mandaluyong City at 5:30 p.m.

The STAR had the chance to interview him briefly, as he prepares to take the local shores by storm.

PHILIPPINE STAR: How did you start in dance?

WILLIAM FLORES: I started folk dancing when I had just come to Sweden — this happened when I was 12 years old, so it’s been quite some time now.

What do you do so you get better at dancing?

I tend to watch a lot of YouTube, to get more inspiration so I can develop more. I usually go to the gym almost every day to get better strength. That’s important for when I perform.

What can Filipinos expect when you visit?

They can expect a lot of Latin music and much happiness! They will get a real show — that I can assure you!

You must enjoy all the traveling and getting to meet new people in your line of work?

I love my job! I love what I do! Of course, sometimes I do get tired traveling around and living on an airplane, but it’s part of the job in this industry. But it is fascinating to meet new people and see new places!

Is it your passion and advocacy to get more people involved in dance?

Exactly! I really love what I do! Every single year, I go to different places and meet people, and my biggest inspiration is that people get excited by what I give to them. I am grateful that I can have my biggest hobby as a job!

What are you lined up to do in 2017?

I start my 2017 in Asia. Then the tour continues in Europe and then ends in the US in November. It’s going to be a great year!
