Green tea can help you lose weight, but...

MANILA, Philippines – Green tea is known for its numerous health benefits but our bodies have a hard time absorbing and using all those nutrients.

“We can drink a lot of green tea and you may think that that’s how you’re going to get all those goodies from green tea. Unfortunately, our bodies have a really hard time absorbing the compounds in green tea,” said Dr. Kristin Morris, senior research scientist at Amways’ Research and Clinical Investigations, in a media launch.

“We absorb maybe as little as 7 percent of the total amount of the compounds,” she added.

Aside from absorption, our bodies also find it difficult to move the healthy compounds to our tissues for them to be useful.

Amway introduced its new product, Nutrilite Green Trim, a food supplement that will help our bodies absorb and benefit from green tea’s healthy components, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) which helps in weight management.

Green Trim uses a special technology called Green Select Phytosome which helps in the absorption of EGCG.

“The technology produces a small, natural complex that binds EGCG together to help it cross lipid-rich intestinal membranes, so more is absorbed into your body instead of being eliminated. In a clinical study, subjects showed increased blood serum levels of EGCG after ingesting EGCG with Phytosome technology, compared to non-Phytosome preparation. (Disclaimer: In a single study, 12 male adult subjects showed increased blood serum levels of EGCG after ingesting 400 mg EGCG with Phytosome technology),” Amway says.

Morris recommended that Green Trim be taken every day to experience its maximum benefits, particularly in weight loss efforts. She emphasized, however, that a low-calorie diet and exercise are essential and should go with regular intake of Green Trim.

Successful weight management

Morris also gave some tips on how one can gain success in weight management efforts:

1. Know the type of of diet that will give you the greater chance for success.

2. Know what your meal habits are.

3. Know your barriers.

According to Morris, once barriers are identified, one can start changing them, track their progress and make healthier habits.

She also said that having high-protein breakfast will help one control their calorie intake as it prevents them from looking for something to nibble on before lunch.

“This is one of the things I always say: you have to eat breakfast. It’s really important,” Morris said. “It is the most important meal of the day in particular for weight management.”

Nutrilite is exclusively distributed by Amway Philippines.
