Fitness gurus share secrets to being physically fit this year

MANILA, Philippines - The holidays have come and go. It's now time for us to shake off the confetti left from the revelry and start planning on how we could be healthy and fit this year.

Being physically fit and in proper shape are things that people should ideally be. But as people who mostly rely on the Internet for information, we kind of lose tract on what’s real and what’s a myth.

So how do you keep yourself fit this year?

Milo R2 - APEX Running School founders Coaches Jim and Toni Saret have some of these basic tips for you.

Getting motivated

“If you stumble and fall, it's okay, what counts is you keep on trying again," Jim said. Like in anything that you do, it's better if you love it. Coach Jim advises to find a program or activity that interests you.

Do not rush things

Start by taking small, baby steps and then gradually build up slowly but surely, Jim advised.

Have the right partner and coach

To help fuel up the fire in your fitness quest,  get a workout buddy.  Find a coach you can relate to.  A coach can make or break your goals, so be sure to find the right one for you.

Fitness for the busy bee

Gone are the days when you had to dedicate one full hour for exercising everyday, because of the MetaFIT workouts.  “If you don't have an hour to exercise though, the MetaFIT workouts we created can burn as much as 600 calories in just four minutes.

Watch what you eat

Be conscious of your diet even if you exercise. A one-hour traditional workout can burn around 300–500 calories depending on the exercise and ITS intensity. A fast food value meal, meanwhile, has calories that can range between 400 to 800. With dessert, it can go up to more than 1,000 calories. And that's only for one meal.

Getting the right gear

Jim said that it is very important to find the right gear for your workout in order to maximize your performance and prevent injuries.

When it comes to fitness, you can say that both of them are gurus.  Jim is a former national team tennis player with a master’s degree in Sports Medicine/Athletic Training from Brigham Young University in the U.S.,  while Toni  is  certified  by multiple fitness  programs  such  as  NESTA  (National  Exercise  and  Sports Trainers Association). Both also served as fitness coaches in The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition.

Since Coach Jim and Toni Saret founded the academy six years ago - the Milo R2 - APEX Running  School  has  helped  countless  of  athletes  develop  their  skills  and  achieve  a  better experience on the road. Under the guidance of the country’s top coaches, the renowned program introduces a revolutionary approach to running with elite training workouts and running principles based  on  sports  science.

This year, Skechers Performance comes on board as the official footwear partner of the Milo R2 - APEX Running School, powering coaches and students as they gain proper knowledge about the sport and develop the strength and endurance to beat theirpersonal records.
