Make healthy choices the easy choices
As more and more young people are now battling lifestyle diseases, fat-proofing the home has become a tall order for busy/working moms. And though most of us may not realize it, our homes could be the biggest dietary derailment; simply because we make junk food available everywhere all the time — on the kitchen counter, in the fridge and in the cupboard. Heck, you might even find a pack of gummi bears hidden under your son’s computer table.
Keeping food out of direct sight might be a good solution, but there’s a far better way than that. We can start by making simple changes not only in the kinds of food we serve our family (put fresh fruits on the table instead of pastries), but also in the manner we prepare the dishes. Take frying, for example.
Children have a penchant for everything fried — from fried chicken, fried fish, french fries, even fried Oreo cookies. Well, frying food doesn’t have to be unhealthy. It largely comes down to the type of oil you use, how much oil you use, and how you use it.
At the inaugural Philips Innovation Experience 2015, which was held recently at the Fort Hotel Canning in Singapore, Philips introduced a smart and better way to fry your favorite dishes — the Philips Viva Collection Digital Airfryer.
A culinary first, the Airfryer boasts a unique Rapid Air technology that enables you to fry, bake, roast, and grill the tastiest snacks — like veggie tempura, potato wedges, even chicken a la king — with less fat than a conventional fryer.
With Rapid Air technology, the Philips Airfryer not only locks in the flavor of the dish, but also emits less odor than conventional fryers. Meaning, it won’t make the house smell like what we’re having for lunch. It is easy to clean, safe and economical for daily use.
With Philips Airfryer, you can eat healthier without giving up the taste and texture of your favorite dishes.
“If people cook more at home, the level of child obesity will be lower,” noted Selina Thurer, VP and GM for personal health, Philips Asean and Pacific, during the panel interview. “Societal trends are veering away from fast food and clearly stepping into healthier, homemade food.”
And since moms are better informed now, they’re always in search of smart innovations that would eventually help members of their families to be healthy, live well so they could enjoy life longer together.
“At Philips, we showcase innovations in personal health and well-being that truly matter to consumers,” enthused Andrew Sia, general manager, Personal Health, Philips Singapore.
The Philips Avance Collection Noodle Maker and Rice Cooker are Mom’s newest allies in the kitchen.
Enjoying a hot bowl of noodles at home will never be the same without Philips Noodle Maker. This impressive contraption allows you to enjoy fresh and tasty noodles in just 10 minutes. Not only that, you can add in nutritious ingredients like egg, spinach and carrot juice in the flour mixture for a healthy, yummy and worry-free homemade noodles for your family. The noodle maker also has an adjustable kneading time feature (five, six, seven to eight minutes), so you can customize the bounciness of the noodles.
“Just like Singaporeans, you are from the part of the world where rice is a staple fare,” Selina told me when I inquired about Philips’ revolutionary Avance Rice Cooker, a must-have for Pinoy households if you ask me.
“And since I’ve lived here for five years, I realized that I, too, couldn’t live without chicken rice anymore. I’m an Asian in disguise in that sense,” Selina added. “The challenge for me now is how to make the perfect rice. Thank goodness, there’s Philips Avance Rice Cooker.”
What’s so special about this cooker is that it breaks away from traditional heating with the pioneering Omnispiral IH technology, which alternates the heating power so the heat circles each grain of rice from two directions. Unlike traditional rice cookers, the Philips Avance Rice Cooker cooks rice evenly. Hindi nahihilaw.
“Also, rice cooked in Philips Avance Rice Cooker doesn’t spoil easily because it stays warmer longer,” Selina explained.
Design-wise, the Philips cooker looks great with a large LCD display, temperature control and an extremely durable, cutting-edge five-layer golden inner pot, which conducts heat evenly. Plus, it has a child lock feature that keeps your kids and kitchen safer.
Philips’ latest line of kitchen appliances has been specifically designed to ease the the home cook’s job of preparing healtier, tastier meals for the family. Hopefully, the innovation never stops.
