It’s such a thrill to witness an event that virtually the entire world stops, just to be a part of it!
That’s the feeling you got at the Singapore Grand Prix the other week, where the circuit’s only night race took center stage and once again enthralled all the fans at the venue and on television all over the globe!
While most of the fans were expecting Mercedes to continue its dominance this season in the Lion City, Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari came out on top to the wild cheers of their throngs of fans!
Lewis Hamilton and his team have dominated for the past 20 months, and so it was surprising that he did not have a podium finish, but Hamilton didn’t even complete the race. He had to retire because of engine problems, the first time that Mercedes encountered that problem all year.
It wasn’t scripted, but numerous incidents happened during the race that kept the fans glued to the action, and made this event stick out.
Sebastian Vettel celebrates after his win!?
Drama emerged from the collision of Felipe Massa, emerging from the pit lane, with Nico Hulkenberg, knocking Hulkenberg out of the race. As expected, he was fuming after the incident and minced no words when he spoke to the media.
Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I’d see a fan, nonchalantly walking on the track while the race was ongoing, which prompted the yellow flag to be brought out, and the race put on hold for a bit. The fan couldn’t be found as he seemingly disappeared just as quickly as popped into the picture.
Bizarre!
In the end, Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo came in second, while Kimi Raikkonen third, the only double podium finish for Ferrari this year.
Supermodel Jessica Michibata Button graces the race.? ?
One of the things that separates this GP, from the rest of the races, is Singapore goes the extra mile to make it an event! Yes, the race is the centerpiece but through the years, a lot of the fans have also been treated to some of the best acts you can find around the world!
This year, with title sponsor Singapore Airlines, they brought in Maroon 5, Pharell, Bon Jovi, and Spandau Ballet to headline their musical extravaganza!
That line-up alone was enough to entice non-motoring fans to make their way to the circuit.
Now, with the world’s best drivers also showcasing their wares, it became a no-brainer!
Singapore has always tried to set the bar very high when they host world-class events, and this year they delivered with flying colors, again !
