Festival Mall goes pink for breast cancer awareness

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - With an average of over 200,000 new diagnoses per year, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women. But there remain many misconceptions about its symptoms and treatment to this day.

To help raise breast cancer awareness, Festival Mall in Alabang, Muntinlupa City holds Go Pink!, a month-long celebration of health, wellness, and fun featuring various activities to help heighten awareness about breast cancer, its symptoms, diagnosis, prevention, and cure.  Proceeds from the Go Pink! activities will go to the three partner organizations I Can Serve Foundation, Stage Zero by Project Pink, and the Asian Hospital Charities Inc. to help fund their activities for breast cancer patients.

Among the activities are ‘’Pink My Bike’’ at the River Park on Oct. 10, 7 a.m. For a registration fee of P500, participants get a biking kit and enjoy a fun biking activity from the River Park and around Filinvest City. Special prizes await those who come in their best all-pink ensemble.

Healthy bodies need to be active. To keep the body moving, Zumba classes are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of October.  Mallgoers can also stretch and relax with Vinyasa Yoga sessions every Tuesday and Thursday of October. Zumba and Yoga sessions start at 6:30 p.m. at the 4th level, Expo Trade and Music Hall.

I Can Serve and the Muntinlupa City Gender and Development Office will also conduct Pink Talk, a seminar and talk on Oct. 8 at the second level Carousel Court about the basics of breast cancer awareness and how to detect the disease early. They will also conduct free breast exams during the activity.

The Muntinlupa City Gender and Development Office, the Ospital ng Muntinlupa, and Asian Hospital will also conduct the Pink Mobile, a roving clinic that will provide free breast exams and breast cancer seminars to all female BPO and office employees around Filinvest City. For a minimal donation, the seminar will tackle not only breast cancer facts and detection tips but also how to provide support to breast cancer patients.

Capping off the month-long celebration is “Dash in Pink” at the River Park on Oct. 25, 6 a.m. Registration fee for the fun run is P500 for a 5K run inclusive of a running kit.

Shoppers may also show their support for breast cancer awareness by buying Go Pink! awareness paracord items, available throughout October. Paracord keychains and bracelets are available at P200 each. Meanwhile, paracord brooches can be purchased at P150. Shoppers get special discounts from selected Festival Mall tenants when they show their paracord items the entire month of October.
