MANILA, Philippines – When figure-conscious people hear the word ‘carbs,’ they next word you’ll be hearing from them is NO. But no matter how much you despise eating carbo-loaded meals, they are essential to keep our body functioning.
It is a good thing not all kinds of carbohydrates are bad for your health. In order to have the right amount of carbohydrates in our body, we should be able to distinguish bad carbs from good carbs.
Harvard edu says that the healthiest sources of carbohydrates are unprocessed or minimally processed whole grains, vegetables, fruits and beans, while unhealthier sources of carbohydrates include white bread, pastries, sodas and other highly processed or refined foods. These items contain easily digested carbohydrates that may contribute to weight gain, interfere with weight loss, and promote diabetes and heart disease.
