Empowering school children in Biñan, Laguna

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - As part of TDK Philippines Corporation’s (TPC) corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, TPC is donating a two-story, two-building classroom to help improve the quality of education and empower children in the underprivileged areas of Biñan City. The project is in line with Republic Act 8525, an act establishing the Adopt-A-School Program to encourage private companies to assist in the delivery of better quality education to public schools in the country, particularly in the poverty-stricken provinces.

TPC chose Zapote Elementary School in Brgy. Zapote, Biñan, Laguna as the beneficiary of the classroom donation program because of the increased enrolees in this school and because of the fact that the existing makeshift classroom is a health and safety hazard for the teachers and students.

The event was graced by officers of TDK Philippines Corporation led by president and CEO Joe Fraga, VP  for business development Kenichiro Arimura, VP for manufacturing engineering Taiki Yamada, HRD director Jordan Yorro, and general affairs director Ed Bonifacio.

The officials of Biñan City, Laguna were led by Mayor Marlyn Alonte-Naguiat, councilors Bong Bejasa, Liza Cardeño, Gel Alonte, and Jaime Salandanan, and barangay captain Ronald Alora.

Representing the Department of Education was district supervisor Dr. Mary Ann Tatlongmaria while the Zapote Elementary school teachers were led by principal Emma Alonde.
