How to recover from colds faster

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Sick days from common respiratory ailments such as cough and colds usually reach up to eight days. For this length of time, one can experience discomfort from sneezing, runny/clogged nose, body aches, itchy throat and non-stop coughing.

These conditions can affect productivity at work or in school. What’s more, if left untreated, the simple cough and cold can develop into complications such as pneumonia or sinusitis.

The good news is that there is actually a way to bounce back from colds faster. According to a meta-analysis published by an international group of experts called Cochrane Collaboration, daily intake of Vitamin C can shorten the duration of the condition by 8% in adults and as much as 14% in children. Many of the 17 studies they analyzed for adults and 14 studies for children used a dose of 1,000mg per day, with some using lower doses. These results could be related to Vitamin C’s immune-enhancing role in the body and could translate as faster recovery from illness and of course, less absences and greater productivity for those supplementing with Vitamin C.

The different Poten-Cee variants are especially formulated to enhance utilization or absorption of Vitamin C in the body or meet special needs.  The eight-hour time release Poten-Cee Forte increases cell exposure to the nutrient through the gradual release of Vitamin C in the blood, while Poten-Cee Sugar-coated prevents the ascorbic acid from immediately dissolving upon reaching the stomach so that it dissolves in the intestines where there is better absorption. A sugar-free Poten-Cee is also available for special conditions such as persons with diabetes or pre-diabetes.   For children, Poten-cee is available in delicious orange-flavored syrup and drops.
