According to a recent study commissioned by Milo, the recent boom in the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry has prompted the growth in number of career opportunities for young Filipino professionals. However, the controlled schedules and the stressful work environment have greatly affected the health and fitness habits of employees. More than 70 percent of workers in each outsourcing company do not engage in wellness activities that improve productivity and reduce risks of developing stress-related illnesses.
Getting ahead at work, making family dinners, and fitting leisure activities into the timetable are among the ever-present challenges that professionals deal with every day. Without an effective routine and a healthy mindset, work and life can become a difficult balancing act. Milo believes that with time and the other factors that affect a steady lifestyle, young professionals must create an action plan to run the hurdles on and off the workplace. Here are a few energizing tips to help balance life and the daily grind.
• Do one task at a time. The eagerness to tick all the boxes on your to-do list can persuade you to do multiple tasks at the same time. This can only bring stress and in some cases, cause you to fail in accomplishing any work.
• Save yourself from juggling. Carefully plot daily responsibilities and carry them out one at a time. Prioritizing will enable you to bank on energy for bigger duties that may come your way and allow you more time to plan your next move.
• Be it a desk or a field job, minimize distractions to help drive you to finish with energy and time to spare. Avoid doing unnecessary activities and focus on what must be done. Constantly review your daily goals and identify and eliminate the factors that may keep you from achieving them.
• Remember that a five-minute break from hard work can go a long way. Taking on too much workload in a day can keep you from being organized. Commit a block of time to pooling your energy or clearing your mind of the stress ahead.
According to fitness coach Jim Saret, being prone to injuries and other age-related illnesses can be linked to lack of exercise. “Deskbound individuals are more likely to feel age taking its toll — especially when they are constantly under the pressure of work. Running is the perfect solution to get in shape. As soon as one’s legs hit their stride, there is a positive impact on agility and endurance that can fuel the body for a day’s work,†he says.
