Laughter Yoga helps boost self-confidence, enhance creativity, and improve communication skills — Dr. Madan Kataria founder, Int’l. Laughter Yoga Movement
To further improve the efficiency and productivity of RFM employees, and to give their 54th anniversary a unique twist and special flavor, Joey Concepcion asked that Laughter Yoga be made the centerpiece of their weeklong celebration. He specifically requested that I conduct it.
The Laughter Yoga session was attended by RFM founder Jose Concepcion and his wife Marivic, along with their 120 employees. Joecon, as Jose Concepcion is fondly called, actively and gamely participated, staying in front all the time, as he led the pack of participants. Yes! Laughter Yoga can be done and enjoyed by the young and adults alike — making the adults energized and feel young once again. After doing some warm-up exercises like the much-liked-and-energy-booster Laughter Yoga clapping and hoho-hahaing, the initially coy, shy, and inhibited participants began loosening up, especially after learning the benefits that can be derived from regularly doing Laughter Yoga.
For starters, we did Double Handshake Laughter that elicited roaring laughter from the participants. This was followed by the ever-applicable Argument Laughter, as arguments form fragments of our day-to-day existence. The difference, however, is that in Laughter Yoga, one argues laughingly. Hahaha! We all commit mistakes at one time or another, so we did the “I’m Sorry Laughter.†Own our mistakes and be sincerely sorry for them. In the same vein, when someone does good, appreciation must be expressed for encouragement, through the Appreciation Laughter. As we went along with the different Laughter Yoga exercises, I explained their specific benefits to our bodies, making the participants all the more visibly excited as they swayed and danced while clapping and chanting the positive chants. The positive chants, if done repeatedly to become one’s mantra, can make one think, act, and speak positively.
At the end of the Laughter Yoga session, Joecon kept congratulating me, saying, “It was very good, very good. I like it so much.†As I was going up the stage with Marivic Concepcion, she profusely thanked me for the very successful and enjoyable Laughter Yoga session. She added it was a great healthy exercise that made her feel so good. They and their employees had a great relaxing laughing time — people who laugh together are better relaxed and de-stressed, thus enabling them to work better together.
As air, along with water and food, is vital for our survival, we monitored our breathing to ensure it is done properly. My passion for Laughter Yoga motivates me no end to study and research to make it truly a life-changing experience. To demolish the notion that Laughter Yoga is purely a laughing session. To ensure that participants come out enthralled and overwhelmed and, more importantly, with a changed positive outlook and a happy, bright perspective in life.

With enormous physiological and psychological benefits, it is the most powerful remedial tool that has the ability to dramatically change the perspective of life by quickly relieving stress and depression, and elevating mood states.
