Relieve asthma by breathing correctly
MANILA, Philippines - If you resolve this year to free yourself from asthma attacks, taking a new route away from expensive medicines or devices could yet be more effective. Try breathing correctly with the Buteyko Method.
Over the years, the Buteyko Method has helped thousands of Filipinos find a drug-free solution and often immediate relief from so-called lifestyle diseases such as asthma and allergies (rhinitis or having excess mucus), panic attacks and anxiety disorder, snoring, sleep apnea and other sleep disorders, hay fever, coughing, immune and hormone imbalance, hypertension, and chronic fatigue syndrome.
“Buteyko Method is a clinically acknowledged program that brings a person’s breathing pattern to normal levels by reducing chronic hyperventilation syndrome or CHVS,†says Jac Vidgen, an Australian senior Buteyko practitioner with 18 years of experience in teaching the method in the Philippines and other parts of the world.
According to Vidgen, our modern lifestyle basically guarantees some degree of dysfunctional breathing, specifically over-breathing or hyperventilation, and is thus a root cause of asthma and other respiratory problems.
Developed over 50 years ago by Russian respiratory specialist Dr. Konstantin Buteyko, the method found acceptance all over the world as scientific trials in Canada, Australia, Scotland, and New Zealand showed it can treat asthma and other breathing-related conditions while strengthening immune function, reducing stress, and improving overall well-being.
The method retrains the respiratory center and includes education, managed breath holds, and reduced breathing, among other breathing exercises and some lifestyle modifications in such areas as posture, eating and sleeping habits, and exercise.
Through effective application of Buteyko’s method, people who suffer from other chronic diseases like emphysema, diabetes, hormonal disorders, lupus, multiple sclerosis or psychological disturbances such as chronic fatigue syndrome are mostly able to resume their normal, productive lives over time, often with little or no medication at all.
