MANILA, Philippines - Tahan-Tahanan, which is supported by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), is a haven for the children with non-communicable diseases and their families/caregivers who come from the provinces and seek cancer treatment in Metro Manila hospitals. It is located at the lower ground, north wing of East Avenue Medical Center, East Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City .
Supported by volunteers from the academe, artists, Kapisanan ng may K sa Pilipinas, social workers, housewives, and students, Tahan-Tahanan is the country’s first halfway home for kids, from 0 to 20 years old, with cancer. It has benefited the young cancer-stricken patients living in far-flung areas.
Recently, some celebrities interacted with the kids and brought joy to them. They were presidential cousin Jackie Aquino with her daughter Andrea; jazz icon Boy Katindig with his manager Elea Floresca; Emer Guingon and Dayloe Enriquez Ranario of the cast of Teen Saint Pedro the Musical, singer Garie Concepcion with her sister Raffie and mom Grace Ibuna; Rotary Club Midtown Diliman president Stauro Punongbayan; model Lua Pazinato; and the volunteers of Tahan-Tahanan, among others.
Seen also during the entertainment activities for the kids were PCSO GM Atty. Jose Ferdinand M. Rojas II, Dr. Larry Cedro, Roger C. Ramirez, Jenny Ortuoste, and Joseph Muego; Tahan-Tahanan medical director Dr. Ma. Victoria M. Abesamis and home manager Maggie Abilgos.
