Fitness and the Citi
MANILA, Philippines - Citi recently launched its first-ever global program inviting employees to adopt an active lifestyle. Dubbed “Live Well at Citi,” the campaign encourages employees across the globe to engage in various sports activities and live a healthier lifestyle.
To kick this off, employees were invited to sign up for the Citi Fitness Challenge, a 30-day program where participants will set a fitness goal and track their progress. Whether walking, or running, or biking or swimming, Citi will accommodate different activities and convert progress into fitness units. The more employees progress toward their goal, the higher their fitness units, and the more Citi will donate to charities including the International Federation of Red Cross.
In Asia Pacific, “Live Well at Citi” was launched by Citi Asia Pacific CEO Stephen Bird who led a four-kilometer outdoor run along the Bowen Trail in Hong Kong. Simultaneous launches also took place across Citi’s offices in the region, including the Philippines.
According to Bird, “Successful, growing businesses are run by healthy employees and we want to help all our employees be both healthy and happy. Employees benefit from a healthier lifestyle, we serve our customers and communities better and everyone wins.”
Here in Manila, Citi country officer Sanjiv Vohra led employees in a 30-minute jog/walk at Ayala Triangle Gardens. All participants received pedometers to help them in tracking their walk to fitness. In his message, Sanjiv underscored the importance of addressing the needs of colleagues outside of work and motivating them to engage in physical activities.
By providing employees with tools and resources such as health and wellness plans, educational activities, and materials as well as fitness challenges, “Live Well at Citi” empowers employees to take ownership to improve their health and productivity.
Employees expressed excitement over this latest initiative surrounding Citi’s 200th anniversary, saying that improving their physical activity and being able to give to charity at the same time is another meaningful way to celebrate the bank’s milestone year.
“The Citi fitness challenge is a great way to get employees to increase their physical activity and improve their health with encouragement from peers while helping the community at the same time,” said Vohra.
