Arresting diarrhea

MANILA, Philippines - Diarrhea is often associated with discomfort, not death. But a study conducted by the World Health Organization with the Department of Health (DoH) and United Nations Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and released in 2008 ranks diarrhea as the fourth leading cause of deaths among children less than five years old and the third leading cause of illness among children in the country.

The same report also ranks the Philippines second among 13 countries included in the census in terms of the number of diarrhea cases.  Statistics likewise shows that the country is the second largest contributor to diarrhea morbidity in the world, next to China with 593,372 deaths based on the 2000 census conducted by the group.

Oral rehydration therapy often helps the affected to restore the balance of fluids and electrolytes in the body. What is often overlooked is the capacity of psyllium fiber to help slow down bowel movement and help increase the gut’s water absorption.

Megafiber, which is composed of 100- percent all-natural psyllium fiber, absorbs excess water from watery stools, reducing the number of times one must go to the toilet due to diarrhea.  When Megafiber absorbs liquids, it forms a slippery film and swells by eight to 14 times its normal weight and forms a soft, bulky mass that passes quickly and easily through the colon, acting like a sponge in the intestinal tract.

Megafiber thus helps control diarrhea by promptly reducing watery stools.  It is also safe for children but not infants.  Parents can simply mix Megafiber with their child’s favorite juice and allow the mixture to gel before spoonfeeding it to the youngster.

Launched by the people who originally introduced psyllium fiber in the Philippines, Megafiber is an all-natural and safe way to take the discomfort out of diarrhea while the proper and necessary medical care and attention is being given to the replenishment of fluids and electrolytes in the body for complete recovery.

Megafiber is now available in Mercury and all major drugstores nationwide at 50 percent more value for money.  It costs the same as similar products on the market, but comes in bigger 7.5g travel sachets, 300g bottles, and even half-kilo family size packs.
