My Color, My Pride
John is the only one among his cousins to have taken up a technical course in college. While he earns more than them with his work abroad, he continues to suffer from the stigma of having a blue-collar job and not having gone the "professional" route.
He doesn't mind though. He continues to take pride in his work and not just because he earns in dollars by the thousands. He wouldn't have been successful anyway if he didn't have the passion for his job.
John takes after his father who maintains an automotive shop in their neighborhood. His skill at car repair, meanwhile, has taken him to Australia where he has further honed his skills.
Mario, meanwhile, is an account executive for a small public relations firm. He doesn't earn as much as John does, but he continues to be keen on performing his duties.
It has always been his dream to put his own company someday and is grateful for the network that he develops while working his current job.
Blue collar, white collar - color designations really don't matter as long as one remains honest and true to what one does. It helps that one loves what one is doing, too.
What is important is that we do not let the pigeonholing hinder us. In whatever we do, we should wear whatever color we have with pride.
Dignity and passion count more than all the stereotyping that other people do.
