Bike ukay-ukay, anyone?

- Ruth Sindico - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Looking for a place to sell your bicycle equipment and accessories with other bike lovers? Drop by the First Manila Folding Bike Festival this Saturday at The Collective in Makati City.

The event is organized by Folding Bike Pilipinas (FBP), a group that champions and supports advocacies for biking as a sport, a form of transportation, and part of one's lifestyle.

A folding bike is a bicycle that can be folded into a compact form that makes it easier to carry into work places or public transportation. Many of FBP's members go to work or travel to vacation spots in their folding bikes.

"Bike Ukay-Ukay is just one of the segments of the Manila Folding Bike Festival," said FBP and organizing committee member Jeans Cequina. "We invite bikers to bring their old, new or unused bike-related stuff-from bells, lights and blinkers to more important essentials like helmets and bike frames.  All they need to do is bring their wares on Saturday and put prices on them.  We will just charge a minimal 5 percent off the merchandise price as administration fee."

While the event showcases folding bikes, it is also open to all types of bikers and bike types like mountain bikes, roadies, fixies, and hybrids.

"We are expecting a lot of biking groups to drop by," Cequina said.

The whole-day festival will have three segments: Padyak, Pista, and Pagkakaisa.

Padyak will see FBP members pedal their way to The Collective, after which a registration, bike blessing, and folding bike contest will be held.

Pista at 1 PM will have the bike exhibit, bazaar, and clinic. A raffle will also be held.

Pagkakaisa at 5 PM will see performances from Tiktok Pilipinas Climate Action advocates Radioactive Sago Project, Jeepney Joyride, Nityalila with Taiwanese pipa player Chung Yufeng, and Mike Pepito.  An after-party with Manila Soul will commence at 9 PM.
