Giving the gift of better smiles
MANILA, Philippines - Martin Charnin said, “You’re never fully dressed without a smile.”
Perhaps this saying inspired Dr. Steve Mark Gan, CEO and president of GAOC (Gan Advanced Osseointegration Center) and Metro Dental, to give the gift of better smiles to residents of Quezon City.
During the day-long event born out of the partnership of GAOC, Metro Dental and the city government of Quezon City led by Mayor Herbert Bautista, a total of 44 personnel from both dental institutions lent their expertise to the cause. Dentists, dental aides, and oral surgeons gave their time and expertise to serve more than 300 QC citizens.
Many Filipinos hesitate to see dentists, fearing the costs of dental procedures, but the GAOC and Metro Dental staff provided dental procedures such as prophylaxis (teeth cleaning), consultations and checkups, and tooth extractions for free while giving their patients the same kind of excellent service they can expect from top-notch dental clinics. And because GAOC and Metro Dental wanted to provide a solution that would last, they also gave out free toothbrushes, toothpaste, and medicine to everyone who availed themselves of their free services.
“This is a joint effort of GAOC and Metro Dental in partnership with the city government of Quezon City in celebration of the city’s 72nd foundation day,” shares Dr. Bong Estrella, an oral surgeon at GAOC. “We wanted to help improve the general oral health of QC residents.”
QC residents and City Hall employees who benefited from the dental mission were also treated to a chance to interact with the celebrities who dropped by to show their support for the cause, including Bugoy Drilon, Rich Herrera, and Liezel Garcia.
“We believe that dental missions are not just about extracting people’s bad teeth and cleaning the rest,” explains Dr Gan, “We want to improve the wellbeing of the residents of this city. Our main goal is to give something back to the people of Quezon City, especially to the hardworking employees and staff of Quezon City Hall who make a lot of things possible for all of us.”
