MANILA, Philippines - Run United Cebu, the last leg of Run United provincial series, concluded the race calendar of Unilab ActiveHealth and RunRio Inc. for 2011. Almost 5,000 runners trooped to the starting line at the Asia Town IT Park in Cebu on December 18.
Unilab ActiveHealth and RunRio Inc. organized a total of eight run races all over the country last year. Five of them were held in the provinces of Davao, Bacolod, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, and Cebu. The three were held in Metro Manila.
“The launch of Run United’s provincial series last year provided us with an opportunity to let more runners experience running the Run United way. More importantly, we were able to spread our advocacy of promoting an active lifestyle to more Filipino families,” says Alex Panlilio, head of Unilab ActiveHealth.
“Run United Cebu was really a fitting finale to the provincial series for many reasons. One is that Cebu ranks second to Manila in terms of number of runners, so the race saw many elite runners running along with enthusiasts. The festive atmosphere of Run United matched the runners’ high spirits,” said Rio dela Cruz, head of RunRio Inc., the organizer of Run United series.
Run United Cebu had five race categories: 500m dash for kids, 3k, 5k, 10k, and 21k.
As a family-oriented event, Run United also features the Unilab ActiveHealth with three areas: Active Seniors, Active Adults, and Active Kids. Runners and their families troop to the “village” before and after their races.
The Run United series and the other events of Unilab Active Health Bike United and Tri United are in line with Unilab’s advocacy to promote a healthy and active lifestyle among Filipino families. These are also for the benefit of Gawad Kalusugan (the health program of Gawad Kalinga) and Hero Foundation.
Unilab ActiveHealth has lined up bigger and better things this year. Run United 1 will happen on March 4, Run United 2 on July 17, and Run United 3 on September 16. Dela Cruz and Panlilio recently announced the Run United’s very own 42k race, the Run United Philippine Marathon, slated on October 28.
