Cooking is fun for kids at Tiny Kitchen
MANILA, Philippines - Looking for summer activities for your kids and teens? Why not try cooking classes they are fun, creative, and practical.
Kids’ cooking teacher Vicky Veloso-Barrera’s school Tiny Kitchen is once again open to welcome young culinary enthusiasts. Children learn to cook in a safe environment where classes are individualized and completely hands-on.
Tiny Kitchen has been running since 1998 and more than four thousand students have studied here, many of whom come back year after year. This year, there are classes beginning March all the way till June.
“That’s why I know what kids like to cook,” says Teacher Vicky, who taught herself to bake at age seven.
There are courses for kids aged four to six, for kids aged seven to 12, and a teens course for 13- to 19-year-olds. Kids start with the basic course, move on to the advanced and after that, there are more than 20 other specialized courses to chose from, like Around the World Parts 1 to 10, Just Desserts, Cake Decorating, Pinoy Favorites, Flavors of Asia, American Classics, Flavors of Europe, and more.
Each course consists of five sessions and kids can create their own schedule. They can arrange to come once a week, two or three times a week or even daily. Classes are held from Mondays to Saturdays with morning and afternoon sessions.
The school is located at 31 Scout Tobias, Quezon City. For more information, call Teacher Vicky at 410-2279 or 09175393940. Visit www.tinykitchen.com.ph and Facebook.
Vicky Veloso-Barrera is also a prolific cookbook and children’s book author. The latest book is unusual because it is the first children’s cookbook in the country for Catholic/Christian publisher OMF Literature. Called From the Kitchen to the Heart, the book combines recipes based on the fruit of the spirit (from the Biblical Book of Galatians—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self-control), and short children’s stories. The recipes are accompanied by step-by-step photos taken by Vicky’s husband Roberto of their three kids Joshua, Hannah, and Tatin, preparing the food.
From the Kitchen to the Heart is available at OMF stores and National Book Store for P250.
