Filipino families are taking to the streets
MANILA, Philippines - More and more families are finding it easier to lead an active and healthy lifestyle with the help of family-oriented sports events like the Unilab ActiveHealth’s Run United.
And now, Unilab ActiveHealth, organizer of the Run United series in partnership with Run Rio Inc., will take Run United series not only to the streets of the Metro but also to the key cities like Bacolod and Cagayan de Oro in November; Baguio on Dec. 4, and Cebu on Dec. 18. Run United 3, the third and the last of the RunRio trilogy, happens in Manila on Nov. 13.
Being one of the most organized and enjoyable running events in the country, Run United has consistently drawn the interest of both experienced and first-time runners.
The race organizers ensure not only the enjoyment of the participants but their safety as well. Hydration booths, marshals, and medics are designated throughout the course to safeguard the participants’ well-being.
“Unilab ActiveHealth was conceptualized to encourage families to live an active and healthy lifestyle, in line with Unilab’s thrust to take care of people’s health. We make sure that we have different categories whenever we organize sports events so that every member of the family can join in — even kids,” says Alex Panlilio, head of Unilab ActiveHealth.
To make the run more appealing to families, Unilab thoughtfully incorporated numerous side events at the race venue. Runners can visit any of the three sprawling areas at the Unilab Wellness Village which include Active Adults, Active Senior, and Active Kids.
“The Unilab ActiveHealth Village has been set up for the family members to enjoy. Even elders and non-participating family members can avail themselves of free consultations from our physicians or join some of the activities,” adds Panlilio.
The Active Adults section treats runners to free physical check-ups, smoothie drink stations, “Why do I run?” storytelling booth, boxing arcade and relay games, bungee, hula hoop and archery parlor games. Older participants, on the other hand, can enjoy free medical check-ups, massages, bone density and calcium screenings, memory games, and the “Active noon, active ngayon” fitness challenge at the Active Seniors booth.
Children are also given a special area of their own at the Active Kids zone. There are huge inflatable play pens, a relaxing kids’ and parents’ lounge area, activity booth, and Wii games that can keep Run United youngest participants entertained.
For Kurt and Zona Uy and family, joining Run United 2 was both a fun bonding and fitness activity for the entire family. Joined by their kids, Kelly, 13; Kate 12; Kervin,10; and Kenneth, 8 who won first place in the Ceelin 500-meter dash, boys 6-8 category, this was the Uy family’s second Unilab ActiveHealth Run. Their family joined the first Run United event last March and found it to be enjoyable and fulfilling.
